1. Langston's main claim is that the fundamentals of rhetoric can be used to get something you want from someone.
2. Camile A. Langston chose this claim because even though the knowledge is very old and dates back to ancient Greece, it is still useful in today's society for getting things you want. 3. The tone that Langston develops is calm. Langston uses the calm tone developed throughout the video through the gentle animations in the background and her soft voice to relax the viewer and help the reader stay focused on what she is saying. 4. The intended audience of Langston's video is everyone. Usually most video's have a certain narrow audience and appeal but this video appeals to the idea of getting what we what, which is something everyone desires. 5. Langston arranges her ideas in a simple way which allows a large general audience to easily understand her points. She uses simple ideas in a simple progression by explaining what rhetoric is then providing examples before moving on to the applications and proving her claim. 6. The author establishes credibility by basing her arguments of historical figure most people can recognize. She uses Aristotle to explain the core of her argument (Langston 0:12- 0:59) 7. Langston wants to invoke interest in the reader. She does this by starting the video with a question for the reader to ponder throughout the course of the video, "how do you get what you want using just your words" (Langston 0:07-0:10 ). By posing the question to the audience the author is getting the audience to think about and connect the question to her points throughout the video. 8. The argument Langston presents is arranged in a simple introduction of the concept followed by a an explanation and then a historical example. She does this when describing symbouleutikon by introducing what it is, explaining how it can be used and providing an example, in this case Ronald Reagan's speech about socialized medicine (Langston 0:57- 1:09). 9. Two rhetorical strategies Langston used in the video were ethos and simplicity. She used ethos early on to establish her credibility by using Aristotle, a well known philosopher, who builds the credibility to her argument because she uses him as a foundation for the reader because he created the foundation for rhetoric (Langston 0:12-0:59). Her use of simplicity is evident throughout the vidoe in the simple animation which keeps the reader engaged in her points and entertained with the video while not distracting from the point of the video. 10. I can use rhetoric by strengthening my arguments. Using ethos, pathos and logos within an argument can help you convince the other person because they create your base for your argument alongside tools for rebuttal.

Carol Dweck arranges her ideas in a way that makes logical sense by giving using examples of children being challenged with a fixed mindset and those with a growth mindset being challenged. She then talked about how to fix the problems facing those with fixed mindset. Dweck goes on to use statistics to show the tangible benefits of growth mindsets. 7. Carol Dweck uses statistical evidence and anecdotal evidence to show the benefits of a growth mindset. She uses statistical evidence when speaking about how children taught with a growth mindset environment had grades higher than those without the growth mindset focus (Dweck 5:56- 6:10). Her anecdotal evidence came from when she was describing how young children when given problems that were too hard chose to either give up or keep thinking and enjoy the challenge (Dweck 1:07- 1:51) 8. I do have a growth mindset and I think it is important to keep improving constantly. The benefits of a growth mindset are noticeable in school where if you do not understand something you cannot just give up but you have to keep trying. |
